Comments on the location information

  • CHASE (OCT. 1954) LOCATED A DEPOSIT NEAR THE C-SW-NE-NE-SEC. 31-5S-12W ON THE CLINTON BYERS FARM. LATER (NOV. 1954), HE QUOTED THE SECTION BY MUNN (1914), BUT MENTIONED THE SW-30-5S-12W INSTEAD OF SEC. 31, BUT LOCATED A SS. 108 FT BELOW TOP AS THE COPPER BED, IN SEC. 31. THERE IS A N. DIP OF 50 FT OR MORE ALONG THE BLUFFS IN ABOUT 0.75 MI, SO THE EASTMAN BULLDOZED SITE IS PROBABLY IN A SANDSTONE (GARBER) MUCH HIGHER THAN THE BENSON SITE, WHICH IS PROBABLY IN THE RYAN SS. (WELLINGTON). BERONI (SEPT. 1954) SAID THAT THE DEPOSIT WAS ABOUT 1 MI S. OF THE CLINTON BYERS FARMHOUSE. SHELTON AND OTHERS (1976, P. 151) MENTION THIS LOCALITY.

Comments on the geologic information

  • THE COPPER OCCURS IN A SANDSTONE ABOUT 108 FT BELOW TOP OF BLUFF, IN UNIT 10 OF MUNN (1914, P. 20), WHICH IS HERE INTERPRETED TO BE AT THE BASE OF THE GARBER. A 2-FT SHALE BELOW ALSO HAS COPPER, HERE INTERPRETED TO BE THE TOP OF THE WELLINGTON FM. THE BED MENTIONED BY CHASE (OCT. 1954) IS PROBABLY IN THE RYAN SS., AT THE BASE OF THE WELLINGTON FM. HAVENS (1977) HAS GEOLOGY OF AREA.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit SEVERAL MILES OF THE RED RIVER BLUFFS SHOULD BE EXAMINED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE RIVER. GILBERT CREEK IS ON THE S. SIDE IN WICHITA COUNTY, TEXAS, AT THE MOUTH OF WHICH COPPER DEPOSITS WERE REPORTED BY CUMMINS (1893, P. 233).
Deposit BERONI (SEPT. 1954; DEC. 1954, P. 213-215) FIRST MENTIONED THIS DEPOSIT. CHASE (OCT. 1954; NOV. 1954) AND BRANSON AND OTHERS (1955) NEXT MENTIONED THIS AREA, CITING A MEASURED SECTION BY MUNN (1914, P. 19-21, 65, 67-68, PL. 5). CURTIS (1956, P. 109, FIG. 4) HAD A PICTURE OF THE CUT. TOTTEN AND FAY (1982, P. 10, LOC. 76) SUMMARIZED THE PREVIOUS REFERENCES.
Deposit APPARENTLY, THERE ARE SEVERAL BEDS IN THE BLUFF THAT MAY CONTAIN COPPER. THE BLUFF IS ABOUT 150 FT HIGH, BUT 233 FT OF BEDS WERE MEASURED. PROBABLY SOME OSCAR BEDS ARE IN SEC. 31, OVERLAIN BY 73 FT OF WELLINGTON. IN SEC. 30, ABOUT 110 FT OF GARBER IS EXPOSED, THE LOWER PART OF WHICH CONTAINS COPPER.
