Comments on the location information

  • ABOUT 200 FT S. OF HWY IS A 30-FT RAVINE WITH A 0.5 M BED OF MALACHITE BELOW A LIMY LAYER, ABOVE RED BROWN SHALE. THIS WOULD BE IN THE RYAN SANDSTONE BED AT THE BASE OF THE CLAYPOOL OR WELLINGTON FORMATION. THE ASSAY WAS 8.48% CUCO3 AND 6.10% CUO. BRANSON, BURWELL, AND CHASE (1955, P. 7) MENTION THIS OCCURRENCE AS A RADIOACTIVE SANDSTONE, 0.5-1.5 FT THICK. THEY SAID THAT THE BED COULD BE TRACED SOUTHWARD TO THE BLUFF OVERLOOKING THE RED RIVER. WEGEMANN (1915, P. 92, 95, 102) DISCUSSED GEOLOGY OF AREA, MENTIONING THE COPPER DEPOSITS. CHASE (1954, P. 1) ALSO MENTIONS THIS DEPOSIT.
