Comments on the location information

  • RYAN (1936, JULY, SHEET KR-12) SHOWS LOCATION AND GIVES HISTORY OF MR. HALLETT. HALE (1981B, P. 311, 318, MAP) QUOTED RYAN. THE SHAFT WAS SUNK IN 1904 IN A DIABASE DIKE, 7 FT THICK, ASSOCIATED WITH TALC, IN PINK GRANITE, STRIKING E-W. THE CITY OF VINITA, OKLA., IS SAID TO HAVE CONTRIBUTED $10,000 TO THIS PROSPECT. A SHORT DRIFT WAS OPENED TO THE NW AT 170 FT, WHERE MINERALIZATION WAS FOUND. AN ARGUMENT FOLLOWED, AND MR. HALLETT WENT TO MEXICO TO LOOK AT HIS OTHER MINES AND DID NOT RETURN. HE GOT INTO TROUBLE AND WAS PUT IN JAIL IN MEXICO FOR SEVERAL YEARS. ONLY WHEN DEMENTED AND DYING WAS HE RELEASED.

Comments on the geologic information

  • AFTER EMPLACEMENT OF MOUNT SCOTT GRANITE, A DIABASE DIKE CUT THE GRANITE, POSSIBLY BRINGING COPPER MINERALIZATION WITH IT. TALC IS ASSOCIATED. THE HENNESSEY GROUP POSSIBLY SURROUNDED THE AREA, AND COPPER COULD HAVE BEEN DEPOSITED IN THE HENNESSEY SEA. GILBERT AND MYERS (1986) DISCUSS THE GEOLOGY.
