  • ELEVATION, LATITUDE, AND LONGITUDE OF LOC. A (MCFARLAND PROSPECT) ARE GIVEN ABOVE. ELEVATION OF LOC. B IS 1480 FT; ELEVATION OF LOC. C IS 1500 FT. HALE (1981B, P. 312, 318, MAP) QUOTES RYAN (1936, SHEET KR-22) THAT NATIVE COPPER PIECES WERE VISIBLE AT A SHAFT CLOSE TO MCFARLAND'S SHAFT. APPARENTLY THESE WERE OPENED ABOUT 1908 BY P.E. MCFARLAND. PAUL MCFARLAND, A SON AND EXECUTOR OF THE ESTATE) SAID IN 1936 THAT HIS FATHER WAS LOOKING FOR COPPER IN THESE PROSPECTS. THE COPPER CARBONATE IS IN DECOMPOSED GRANITE. ABOUT 600 FT TO THE SW IN A RAVINE IS ANOTHER PIT, WHICH ALSO CONTAINED SOME NATIVE COPPER, IN ADDITION TO THE COPPER CARBONATE (LOC. B). ANOTHER SHALLOW SHAFT IS IN THE NW-NE-NW-NE-11-3N-18W, WITH COPPER CARBONATE STAINS IN GRANITE (LOC. C). ATCHISON (1936) LOCATED THREE SAMPLES WITH COPPER AND SILVER IN THE N2-NE-NW OF 11, WHICH MAY BE INCORRECT. THE LOCALITY IS PROBABLY N2-N2-NE.
