Comments on the location information

  • POLK (1948, P. 57-58, MAP) MENTIONED DIABASE FLOAT ON THE DUMP. SOME OF THE DIABASE DIKES HAVE PYRITE. POLK DESIGNATED THE PROSPECT PIT AS POSSIBLY COPPER. HALE (1981B, P. 310, 317, LOCALITY 1) SAID THAT A. HYMER DUG A 32 FT SHAFT ON THE ALBERT HOPKINS CLAIM IN 1903, WHICH SHOWED GOLD AND 2 OZ SILVER PER TON OF ROCK. THE SHAFT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE S. OF THE ENTRANCE TO DEVILS CANYON. HALE QUOTED RYAN AND WINNETT (1936, SHEET 2004). HIS LOCALITY 1 WAS GIVEN AS SW OF SE OF NW OF NE OF 12-4N-20W, WHICH IS ON THE E. SIDE OF DEVILS CANYON, FARTHER N. MERRITT (1958) SHOWS THE SAME LOCATION AS THAT OF POLK (1948). RYAN (1936, SHEET KR-35) HAS A 32 FT SHAFT ON A 7 FT DIKE BY A. HYMER IN 1908 IN THE NE-NE-SW-SE-12, WITH SAME ANALYSES. POSSIBLY THESE TWO ARE THE SAME?

Comments on the geologic information

  • PROBABLY A DIABASE DIKE CUTTING THE REFORMATORY GRANITE WAS MINERALIZED. POSSIBLY THE DIKE WAS WEATHERED AND SOME OF THE METALLIC IONS WERE INCORPORATED INTO THE HENNESSEY SEA. POSSIBLY SOME COPPER AND SILVER WERE ASSOCIATED WITH PYRITE. POLK (1948) AND MERRITT (1958) DISCUSS GEOLOGY.
