Relative position GO 3 MI S. OF OLD GLORY ON TEXAS HWY. 1835 TO WHERE ROAD CROSSES CREEK. WALK DOWN CREEK TO SE ABOUT 1200 FT TO C. OF NE OF NE OF SEC. 8. SOME PLACE IN THIS REGION WAS PROBABLY CAMP 17 OF MARCY ON HIS 1854 EXPEDITION, WHERE THE PARTY MADE CAMP ON THE NIGHT OF AUGUST 2, 1854. WILLIAM B. PARKER RODE ON THE EXPEDITION AND MENTIONED THAT COPPER WAS FOUND AT THIS CAMP BETWEEN THE SALT FORK AND DOUBLE MOUNTAIN FORK, SUPPOSEDLY ABOUT 10 MI S. OF THE SALT FORK BUT PROBABLY CLOSER TO 8 MILES. PARKER SAID THAT "SPECIMENS OF COPPER WERE ALSO FOUND, AND FOSSIL SHELLS." ALSO, HE SAID THAT "THE SOIL WAS GRAVELLY." THIS IS PROBABLY COPPER IN THE FLOWERPOT SHALE. STORM (1929) MAPPED LOWER FLOWERPOT IN THESE SECTIONS, WITH SAN ANGELO TO SE TO DOUBLE MOUNTAIN FORK.
