| Deposit | THE SALAR CRUST IS THIN AND LARGELY COMPOSED OF SILT AND CLAY WITH ULEXITE. THE ULEXITE IS CONCENTRATED IN THE EAST-CENTRAL PART OF THE SALAR, IN AND NEAR THE BAY FORMED IN THE SOUTHERN SECTOR BY AN ISLAND IN THE SOUTH-CENTRAL PART OF THE SALAR. THE ISLAND SERVED AS A STRUCTURAL TRAP FOR THE B FROM THE SPRING WATERS. FIBROUS ULEXITE OCCURS IN LAYERS OF 3 CM AND GREATER THICKNESS AND AS NODULES 5-15 CM IN DIAMETER. THE ULEXITE-RICH PART OF THE CRUST TOTALS 0.5 M IN THICKNESS. THE BORATES FORM A HOMOGENEOUS CONTINUOUS BLANKET OVER AN AREA OF ABOUT 1 SQ KM. THE DEPOSIT IS OVERLAIN BY A THIN LAYER OF SALINE EFFLORESCENCE AND UNDERLAIN BY GREEN PLASTIC CLAYS. |
| Deposit | THE DEPOSIT HAS A STRIKING WHITE COLOR DUE TO ASURFICIAL COATING OF SODIUM CARBONATE. THE DEPOSIT CONSISTS OF AN ISOLATED SHORT GEYSER CONE 40 M IN DIAMETER AND A MAXIMUM OF 3 M HIGH THAT LIES ON AN ALLUVIAL BASE. THE CONE IS COMPOSED OF TRAVERTINE INTERCALATED WITH HARD BEDS OF LIGHT GREEN ONYX. BORATES WERE DEPOSITED AS ULEXITE IN THE ALLUVIUM. |
