Comments on the workings information

  • PROSPECT PITS ARE SCATTERED. THE MAIN CLAY PIT IS LOCATED BETWEEN TWO PLAYAS-- FORT IRWIN AND SILVER LAKE. 13 M OF ALTERED TUFFACEOUS SEDIMENTS ARE EXPOSED IN THE MAIN PIT. PALE GREENISH-GRAY CLAY AND GYPSUM BEDS CROP OUT AT AN ELEVATION OF ABOUT 533 M. THE ORE BEDS STRIKE N70W AND DIP 50NE. TO THE SOUTH, THE BEDS ARE FOLDED, UPLIFTED, AND TRUNCATED BY A LATE CENOZOIC FAULT. DEPOSIT IS OVERLAIN BY POORLY-SORTED FANGLOMERATE.
