Comments on the geologic information

  • ; CHROMITE OCCURS IN TABULAR FORMS (THICKNESS 6-10 M, LENGTH 45-280 M) IN 7 SUBPARALLEL STRATIGRAPHIC LEVELS IN THE SUKINDA MASSIF, A LAYERED ULTRAMAFIC STOCK STRIKING ENE. CHROMITE FORMS A 15 M THICK VERTICAL PROFILE WITH INTERBEDDED SERPENTINE. THE MASSIF IS INTRUDED INTO A QUARTZITE MEMBER OF AN IRON FORMATION AND CONSISTS OF AN OLDER, CHROMIUM-RICH (1250 M) AND A YOUNGER, CHROMIUM-POOR (450 M) SEQUENCE. THE REGION IS FOLDED, FORMING A LARGE SW-PLUNGING SYNCLINE. THE CHROMITE ORE BODIES ARE CONFORMABLE TO PRIMARY LAYERING. GRAIN SIZE DECREASES UPWARD, AS DO THE CR2O3 AND MGO PERCENTAGES. COMPLETE ALTERATION TO SERPENTINE OR TALC-SERPENTINE NEAR THE SURFACE. PGE CHEMISTRY SIMILAR TO PODIFORM-TYPE DEPOSITS.
