Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • ; GRAPHITE, QUARTZ, MICA, CLAY, PYRITE, IRON OXIDES; GRAPHITE ORE CONTAINS AN AVERAGE OF 85 % FC BUT PRODUCTS FROM MINE AVERAGED 75 % FC (SEE FOR PRODUCTION). THE AMORPHOUS GRAPHITE ORIGINATED FROM COAL OR CARBONACEOUS MATTER IN THE SEDIMENTS OF THE PYONGYAN-AND OKCHON SYSTEMS METAMORPHOSED BY INTRUSIONS OF GRANITES. ORIGINALLY OKCHON SYSTEM WAS INTERPRETED AS PREC. NEWER STUDIES SUGGEST, THAT THE AGE OF THE CARBONACEOUS ROCKS (COAL SEAMS, GRAPHITE) MAY BE PERM-TRI

MINERAL RESOURCE CATEGORIES AND CODES HEREIN ARE FROM THE INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM RECOMMENDED BY THE UNITED NATIONS GROUP OF EXPERTS ON DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY FOR MINERAL RESOURCES. (SEE NATIONAL RESOURCES FORUM, V. 4, NO. 3, P. 307-313.). SURFACE AT LEAST 28 GRAPHITE DEPOSITS WERE KNOWN ABOUT 1945 IN CHINA. MAINLY PRODUCING AMORPHOUS OR MICROCRYSTALLINE GRAPHITE. MAIN PRODUCTION AT THAT TIME WAS IN HELONGJIANG AND HONAN PROVINCES. HELONGJIANG-PPRODUCTION IN 1944 WAS 12000 TONNES, 510 TONNES WERE PRODUCED 1933 IN HONAN-DEPOSITS CHENHSIEN-DEPOSIT/HUNAN PROVINCE PRODUCED 300 TONNES IN 1940. A LARGE GRAPHITE MINE (RESOURCES ESTIMATED 1 MILLION TONNES OF 84 % FC ORE) WAS DEVELOPED IN 1940 NEAR YENTUNGHAN/KIRIN-PROVINCE (43 DEG 17'N; 125 DEG 59'E) AT PRESENT MAJOR PORTION OF CRYSTALLINE GRAPHITE PRODUCTION IS FROM
Deposit SHANDONG DEPOSITS MAIN AMORPHOUS GRAPHITE PRODUCTION OCCURS IN HELONGJIANG. CHINESE GRAPHITE RESOURCES ARE ESTIMATED AS FOLLOWS (MIMIMUM ESTIMATES) R1+R2: 227 MILLION TONNES OF ORE (SEE FOR SHANDONG) CRYSTALLINE GRAPHITE ORE R1E AMORPHOUS GRAPHITE 300 MILLION TONNES (JIXI) WHICH EQUALS R1E. ESTIMATED PRC GRAPHITE PRODUCTION IN 1983 WAS 185000 TONNES, IT IS ASSUMED THAT THIS QUANTITY CONTAINS CONSIDERABLE AMOUNTS OF ROM-ORE

CUMULATIVE PRODUCTION 1973-1983 OF AMORPHOUS GRAPHITE WAS ABOUT 563000 TONNES. THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN AMORPHOUS GRAPHITE AND COAL (ANTRACITE) AT SOME DEPOSITS OF KNOWN PERM AGE WAS REPORTED TO BE DETERMINED BY THE RELATIVE MARKET PRICES OF THE 2 COMMODITIES
