Comments on the geologic information

  • UPLIFT AND EROSION; CPML; MN OXIDES ARE INTERBEDDED WITH HEMATIC JASPER. TWO MAIN BEDS ARE KNOWN, BOTH IN THE LOWER PART OF THE FORMATION; ONLY THE LOWER BED IS BEING MINED. JACADIGO GROUP UNCONFORMABLY OVERLIES BASEMENT AND CONSISTS OF TAQUARAL, URUCUM, AND SANTA CRUZ FORMATIONS FROM BOTTOM TO TOP, AND IS OVERLAIN BY THE CORUMBA GROUP DEPOSITED DURING VENDIEN. FAULT CONTROLLED SEDIMENTATION DURING 950-850 MA FORMED JACADIGO GROUP IN AN INTRACRATONIC BASIN UNDER FLUVIAL-LACUSTRINE CONDITIONS PASSING INTO A SHALLOW MARINE ENVIRONMENT. DROPSTONES IN SANTA CRUZ FM SUGGESTS DEPOSITION IN A PERIGLACIAL ENVIRONMENT. MINERALIZATION SYNGENETIC WITH HOST ROCK.
  • ; PRLS; PLML; THESE MANGANESE DEPOSITS ARE PART OF THE SINIAN (LPREC) AGE FORMATIONS WHICH EXTEND INTERMITTENTLY FOR A STRIKE LENGTH OF 200 KM. THE CARBONATE ORE DEPOSITS ARE WITHIN SILICEOUS AND CARBONACEOUS SHALES INTERCALATED WITH SANDSTONES. THOSE BEDS WITHIN 40-50 M OF THE SURFACE AND UNDER THE WATER TABLE WERE CONVERTED TO OXIDIZED ORE.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • INFERRED RESERVES (LOWER BED). ESTIMATED OTHER RESOURCE (UPPER BED).
  • RR1: MEASURED AND INDICATED RESERVES (LOWER BED). MANGANESE: ORE (1) MEASURED, ORE (2) INDICATED, ORE (3) INFERRED; A = URUCUM AND TROMBAS, B = SANTA CRUZ AND SAO DOMINGOS, C = MORRO GRANDE, D = RABICHO, E = JACADIGO AREAS, ORE (4) = TOTAL ORE.
  • IDENTIFIED ONLY AS RESERVES.
  • 1) AND 2) ARE FROM MORRO DO URUCUM MINE. DEPOSIT 3) IS FROM THE SANTANA MINE. THE SANTANA FIGURE WAS REPORTED BY THE OPERATORS OF THE SANTANA MINE. IN 1974, YVON BARRETTO ESTIMATED RESERVES OF MN ORE AT 70,000,000 TONS WITH HIGH AMOUNTS OF POTASSIUM (M.G. WHITE, WRITTEN COMMUNICATION, 1974).

Comments on the workings information

  • A MINIMUM THICKNESS OF 1.4 METERS IS REQUIRED FOR BEDS MINED UNDERGROUND. THE MANGANESE OXIDE OUTCROPS NEAR TOPS OF 25-100 M SCARP ON INACCESSIBLE MOUNTAINS.

Comments on development

  • NON-GEOLOGIC CONSTRAINTS ON DEVELOPMENT OR EXPANSION IN 1-5 YRS. ( TRANSPORT/ACCESS; X; LONG RIVER HAULAGE AND LOW TONNAGE RAIL CAPACITY TO PORTS RESTRICT PRODUCTIVITY). EXPLORATION(YES); DEPOSITS HAVE NOT BEEN THOROUGHLY EXPLORED, ORE IS MARGINALLY COMMERCIAL; AVG. 44-46% MN IN 1978.
  • NON-GEOLOGIC CONSTRAINTS ON DEVELOPMENT OR EXPANSION IN 1-5 YRS. (). CARBONATE ORE WITH 11-25% MN; OXIDE ORES OF 40-50% MN ALSO OCCUR; ONE OF CHINA'S MAJOR PRODUCERS OF MANGANESE.

Deposit ANOTHER DEPOSIT IS LOCATED AT SOUTH END OF SERRA DO RABICHO AT THE SANTANA MINE. THIS MANGANESE IS EPIGENETIC AFTER THE HOST ROCK (NONFERRUGINOUS WEATHERED AND KAOLINIZED CONGLOMERATIC ARKOSE ) FORMED. THE DEPOSIT CONSISTS OF MANY THIN LENSES OF HIGH GRADE MANGANESE OXIDE, POSITIONED BELOW THE JASPER AND IRON-FORMATION ZONES. THIS DEPOSIT HAS NOT BEEN THOROUGHLY EXPLORED (1984) AND IS ONLY MARGINALLY COMMERCIAL, AS OF 11-87. THIS RECORD INCLUDES DATA FROM W002145 AND W002326 WHICH HAVE BEEN DELETED FROM THE DATA BASE. THIS RECORD WAS COMPILED FOR THE INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIC MINERALS INVENTORY. THE DATA WERE USED IN PREPARATION OF THE USGS CIRCULAR 930 SERIES OF REPORTS. MINERAL RESOURCE CATEGORIES AND CODES HEREIN ARE FROM THE INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM RECOMMENDED BY THE UNITED NATIONS GROUP OF EXPERTS ON DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY FOR MINERAL RESOURCES. (SEE NATIONAL RESOURCES FORUM, V. 4, NO. 3, P. 307-313.). UNDERGROUND NONE THE MANGANESE DEPOSITS IN THE STATE OF
Deposit MATO GROSSO ARE CONSIDERED TO BE THE LARGEST IN BRAZIL EXCEPT FOR THOSE IN AMAPA TERRITORY. HIGH COSTS OF MINING EQUIPMENT AND TRANSPORT CONSTRAIN THE MANGANESE PRODUCTION OF THE DISTRICT. RECORD W002326 PREPARED BY THOMAS M. WARFLE AND UPDATED BY GRETA ORRIS HAS BEEN INCORPORATED INTO THIS RECORD.
Deposit 2 MAIN BEDS; ONLY LOWER BED BEING MINED. FOUR TYPES OF MANGANESE MINERALIZATION: (1) CONCRETIONARY CRYTOMELANE (49.51% MN, 5.5% FE); (2) CRYPTOMELANE RICH IN DETRITAL MATERIAL (25.63% MN, 16.95% FE, 10.52% SI); (3) BANDED, BEDDED CRYPTOMELANE (45.86% MN, 12.63% FE, 3.15% K); (4) BANDED, BEDDED BRAUNITE (39.51% MN, 6.48% FE, 10.62% SI). BEDS ARE 2-12 MM THICK.
