OVERLYING LAYERS ARE -GENTLY DIPPING SE. FAULT SYSTEMS STRIKE N-S AND SW-NE. STEEP--DISSECTING ORES (UP TO 50 M RELATIVE DISPLACEMENT) ARE POST-E-OCENE.
  • ; ARCH; RB/SR; 2615 +/- 30 MA; PYTT + PNLD + PYRT + CLCP + MGNT + CRMT + MLRT; KAMBALDA SEQUENCE COMPRISES FROM BASE: FOOTWALL BASALT, ULTRAMAFIC SEQUENCE (OLIVINE PERIDOTITE AND PICRITE), HAN-GING-WALL BASALT, PLUS ASSOCIATED SEDIMENTS AND FELSIC INTRUSI-VES. SEQUENCE NOW DOMED AS A RESULT OF FOLDING/INTRUSION. 80-% OF ORE OCCURS IN FOOTWALL BASALT/ULTRAMAFIC CONTACT; REMAIND-ER OCCURS WITHIN ULTRAMAFIC SEQUENCE. ORE CONTAINS MASSIVE, M-ATRIX, AND DISSEMINATED SULPHIDES.

MINERAL RESOURCE CATEGORIES AND CODES HEREIN ARE FROM THE INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM RECOMMENDED BY THE UNITED NATIONS GROUP OF EXPERTS ON DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY FOR MINERAL RESOURCES. (SEE NATIONAL RESOURCES FORUM, V. 4, NO. 3, P. 307-313.). NO DETAILED AND CONSISTENT FIGURES ARE AVAILABLE ON PRODUCTION AND RESOURCES OF ALBANIAN NI-FE MINES. TOTAL ANNUA-L ORE PRODUCTION OF ALBANIA IS ESTIMATED TO BE SOME 1 MILLION -METRIC TONS AT PRESENT. TOTAL MINE CAPACITY IS AT LEAST 1.2 M-ILLION METRIC TONS OF ORE PER YEAR.
