  • ; APATITE, DOLOMITE, CALCITE, LIMONITE, SILICA; METASEDIMENTS OF ARAVALLI GROUP UNCONFORMABLY LIE UPON BASEMENT OF GNEISSES AND GRANITES. A ROCK PHOSPHATE HORIZON IS SITUATED NEAR THE BASIS OF THE ARAVALLI GROUP. COMPLICATED STRUCTURE OF ARAVALLI BASIN (SYNFORM, TROUGH) CAUSED BY SUPERIMPOSED FOLDING. ARAVALLI GROUP, FROM BOTTOM TO TOP: - BASAL QUARTZITE AND GRIT; - DOLOMITIC LIMESTONE, CHERTS AND STROMATOLITE ROCKS CONTAINING PHOSPHATE LAYER; - PHYLIITES AND MICASCHISTS; - METALITHIC ARENITE; - UPPER QUARTZITE. THE PHOSPHATE OCCURS IN A UNIQUE LAYER WITH A DIP BETWEEN 30 DEG. AND 60 DEG. (TOWARDS CENTER OF TROUGH) AND AVERAGE THICKNESS OF 10 M. THIS LAYER EXTENDS OVER A LENGTH OF 16 KM

ON THE OTHER HAND THE ORES CAN BE EASILY BENEFICIATED; APPLICATION OF SIMPLE METHODS (WASHING, SIFTING) GIVES RELATIVELY HIGH-GRADE CONCS. DEPOSITS PROBABLY HAVE SIGNIFICANCE ONLY FOR LOCAL FERTILIZER SUPPLY
  • NON-GEOLOGIC CONSTRAINTS ON DEVELOPMENT OR EXPANSION IN 1-5 YRS. (). DEVELOPMENT(UNKNOWN); EXPLORATION(UNKNOWN); DURING 10 YEARS OF OPERATION (1969/79) OVER 3 MILLION TONNES OF PHOSPHATE ROCK HAVE BEEN EXTRACTED AND ALMOST 8 MILLION TONNES OF OVERBURDEN HAVE BEEN REMOVED. TWO TYPES OF ORE: HIGH GRADE AVERAGING OVER 30 % P2O5 AND REPRESENTING 30-35 % OF THE "TOTAL GEOLOGICAL RESERVES", AND LOW-GRADE ORE WITH P2O5 CONTENTS BETWEEN 10 AND 25 %. CONCENTRATES, VARYING CONSIDERABLY IN GRADE (30-38 % P2O5) ARE RECOVERED THROUGH GRINDING ONLY. PHOSPHATES ARE FOR DOMESTIC USE ONLY. ORES BEING MINED ARE VERY HARD. SILICA AND IRON CONTENT ARE HIGH. 1) HIGH GRADE ROCK: 66.3 % BPL, 30.35 % P2O5, 2-3 % F, 0.01 % CL, 46.52 % CAO; 0.5-2 % MGO, 1-3 % R2O3, 5-12 % SIO2, 1-2 % LOI; 2) LOW GRADE ROCK: 31.0 % BPL, 14.2 % P2O5, 1.2-2.5 % F, 0.01 % CL, 38.44 % CAO; 6-12 % MGO, 1-4 % R2O3, 3-10 % SIO2, 20-25 % LOI; 3) CONCENTRATE: 87.6 % BPL, 40.1 % P2O5, 3.6 % F, 0.7 % CO2, 54.2 % CAO, 0.04 % MGO, 0.7 %
