Economic information

Geologic structures

Type of structure Regional
Structure description Principal Zone Of Pegmatites Trends Northeast; Most Pegmatites Strike Northeast, But A Few Strike Northwest.

Ore body information

  • General form TABULAR OR FLAT-LENTICULAR
    Strike N 3 TO 12 E
    Dip 50 TO 55 N

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Fractures, Dilation Zones (Cameron, 1951

Comments on the geologic information

  • THE PEGMATITE IS SITUATED NEAR THE CONTACT OF METASEDIMENTARY ROCKS WITH BORDER GNEISS. PLAGIOCLASE HAS BEEN KAOLINIZED. QUARTZ OCCUPIES THE CORE AND FORMS A PROMINENT LEDGE, EXPOSED FOR 50 FEET ALONG STRIKE.

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Development status Past Producer
Commodity type Non-metallic
Significant No
Year of first production 1900
Production years EARLY 1900'S

Mining district

District name Bryson City Feldspar District

Ownership information

  • Type Owner-Operator
    Owner Harris Clay Co.

Comments on the workings information

  • PRINCIPAL OPENING IS 150 FEET LONG, 100 FEET WIDE, AND 55 FEET MAXIMUM DEPTH. A SMALLER CUT IS CONNECTED TO THE LARGER BY A SHALLOW EXCAVATION. STRUCTURAL RELATIONSHIPS OF PEGMATITE TO WALLROCKS ARE OBSCURED BY SLUMPING.

Comments on development

  • ECON.COM: THE PEGMATITE APPEARS TO BE TOO SMALL TO FURNISH APPRECIABLE AMOUNTS OF FELDSPAR.
