Comments on the production information

  • IN 1870 AMOUNTED TO $5000; ACTIVE EARLY 1850S TO 1870S. 220' SHAFT, WITH SHORT DRIFTS ON THE 120- AND 200-FT. LEVELS. B. 108, P. 147, GIVES AN EXCERPT FROM AN ACCOUNT BY T.A. RICKARD IN WHICH HE SAYS THAT ACICULAR BLACK CRYSTALS OF PITCHBLENDE (URANINITE) TOGETHER WITH URANIUM OCHRE WERE IN THE QUARTZ ASSOCIATED WITH THE GOLD IN A LARGE POCKET TAKEN FROM THIS MINE IN 1887. HOWEVER, V. 32, NO. 3, P. 283, SAYS THAT THIS EXCERPT REALLY APPLIES TO THE UNION CORDOVA MINE IN SEC, 33 THIS TOWNSHIP. A RADIOACTIVITY RECONNAISSANCE OF DUMP AND TESTS OF QUARTZ VEIN INDICATE ONLY LOW GAMMA-RAY ACTIVITY AND FAIL TO CONFIRM PRESENCE OF URANIFEROUS MINERAL. (SP. REPT. 49)
