  • BLACK SLATE IS ONE OF HOST ROCK. ; GEOL.DESC: GREENSTONE DERIVED FROM PYROXENE ANDESITE OF PALEOZOIC CALAVERAS FM. FROM HANGING WALL. FOOTWALL SLATE IS PROBABLY PART OF THE UPPER JURASSIC MARIPOSA FM. MARY HARRISON VEIN IS TRACEABLE FROM THE COUNTY LINE ON THE NORTH TO THE VIRGINIA MINE ON THE SOUTH. IT IS CHARACTERISED BY A PROMINANT, MASSIVE SHEET OF MILKY QUARTZ 4 - 20 FT. THICK BETWEEN IRREGULAR, RIBBONED MASSES OF QTZ.-MARIPOSITE-PYRITE ROCK, THE UPPER PARTS OF WHICH ARE COMMONLY CONVERTED TO POROUS, EARTHY MASSES OF YELLOWISH BROWN IRON AND SILICA OXIDES.
