  • GILLIS LOCATED CLAIM DURING WWI AND MINED 22 LONG TONS OF ORE BUT DID NOT SHIP THE ORE; ANOTHER PERSON, BELIEVED TO BE SAM SCHWARTZ, REMOVED THE ORE AFTER THE ARMISTICE. A SAMPLE TAKEN BY GILLIS WAS SAID TO CONTAIN 62 PERCENT CR2O3, THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE RECORDED FOR ANY OF THE CHROMITE FOUND IN THE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA REGION, IF NOT IN THE STATE. SHOWS LITTLE PROMISE.
