  • GEOL.DESC: SHALLOW GRAVEL WHICH PROBABLY CONSISTS OF REMNANTS OF IONE SHORELINE GRAVELS, DISSECTED BY LATER STREAMS AND GULLIES. GRAVEL LIES UNDERNEATH 2-3 FT. OF SOIL AND SAND AND AVE. DEPTH OF DIGGING HAS BEEN 10 TO 11 FT. BEDROCK IS DECOMPOSED GRANITE, YIELDING ABUNDANT SAND. CHANNELS ARE HARD TO FOLLOW AND ARE LIKELY SEGMENTS REMAINING FROM FORMER COURSE OF A BRANCH OF COON CREEK WHICH RUNS ALMOST IN THE LINE OF STRIKE OF SOME OF THE OPHIR QUARTZ VEINS. WORKED BY DRAGLINE - BUCKET CAP. 1 -3/4 CU. YDS. ELEVEN MEN EMPLOYED IN 1935 WITH DRAGLINE RUNNING 18 HOURS A DAY AND WASHING PLANT 16 HOURS.
