Comments on the geologic information

  • GEOL.DESC: 320 ACRES OF NICKEL-BEARING LATERITES ARE ON TOP OF SERPENTINES. THIS MANTLE OF LATERITE CONSISTS OF SILICIFIED ZONE, WHICH IS S. EXTENSION OF SERPENTINE BELT OF VALLEY SPRINGS AREA, AND WHICH OCCURS AS ONLY SMALL REMNANTS OF PRESERVED MANTLE. GARNIERITE AND CHRYSOPRASE ARE THE COMMON NICKEL-BEARING LATERITES ON TOP OF SERPENTINES, AND OCCUR AS VEINS. THE BASE OF MANTLE IS AVERAGE ELEVATION OF 1150 FT. THE LATERITE IS 20 TO 80 FT. THICK, AVERAGING 30 FT. THICK. AREA IS UNDERLAIN PRINCIPALLY BY METAVOLCANIC ROCKS OF LOGTOWN RIDGE FORMATION (JURASSIC), AND SERPENTINITE, WITH SMALL ISOLATED PATCHES OF TABLE MOUNTAIN LATITE (PLIOCENE)
