  • GEOL.DESC: AREA IS UNDERLAIN BY PERIDOTITE, WHICH CONTAINS LOCAL SMALL BODIES OF CHROMITE-BEARING DUNITE. PERIDOTITE IS JOINTED AND LOCALLY ALTERED TO SERPENTINITE. LATERITE MANTLE IS DEEP REDDISH BROWN IN COLOR, AND IS MORE THAN 50 FT. DEEP, AS HOLES DUG TO THAT DEPTH DID NOT BOTTOM IN PERIDOTITE. TOP 5 TO 10 FT. OF LATERITE CONTAINS FROM 0.30 TO 1.50 PERCENT NICKEL, AVERAGING ABOUT 0.79 PERCENT. ASSAYS OF SAMPLES TAKEN AS DEEP AS 50 FT. AVERAGED 0.60 PERCENT NICKEL.
