General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit LIMESTONE IS ALTERED, EITHER SILICATED TO LIGHT GREEN OR DENSE DARK GREEN-BROWN TACTITE, OR BLEACHED AND RECRYSTALLIZED TO A WHITE CRYSTALLINE MARBLE. THE ROCKS ARE CUT BY IRREGULAR IRON-STAINED VEINS. PROSPECT APPEARS TO FOLLOW A N-S FAULT OR QUARTZ VEIN SYSTEM WHICH IS THOUGHT TO BE A SOUTHERN EXTENSION OF THE PENNSYLVANIA VEIN. SILICATION INDICATES THAT ROCKS ARE LOCALLY INTRUDED BY DIKES OR OTHER INTRUSIVE BODIES AS SHOWN ON USGS MAP AND COUNTY REPORT. HOWEVER, NO INTRUSIVE ROCKS WERE OBSERVED IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. SAMPLE 1706 CONSISTS OF QUARTZ VEIN AND QUARTZ-CEMENTED SEDIMENTARY BRECCIA WITH CLOTS AND CRYSTALS OF OXIDIZED PYRITE, CHALCOPYRITE AND SURFACE COATINGS OF CU-FE-MN OXIDES. VEIN MATERIAL HAS SMALL VUGS LINED WITH MN-COATED QUARTZ CRYSTALS AND RADIATING MALACHITE. THIN OPEN-CENTERED VEINLETS CUT MORE MASSIVE SUGARY VEIN MATERIAL. SAMPLED VEIN IS DARK GREY (ESPECIALLY IN AREAS CONTAINING CRYSTALS OF UNOXIDIZED PYRITE) INDICATING A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF DISPERSED SULFIDES
