  • TWO MAJOR CONCENTRATIONS OF GOLD ARE UPSTREAM FROM THE "GOLD BELT" WHERE NO GOLD MINING HAS BEEN RECORDED: HEADWATERS OF DUKES CREEK 3.5 MI WEST OF HELEN AND HEADWATERS OF SHOAL CREEK IN SOUTHWESTERN WHITE COUNTY. SOME SIZABLE NUGGETS (500 PENNYWEIGHT) FOUND IN EARLY DAYS. PT IDENTIFIED AT 8 LOCALITIES, BUT AUTHOR SUGGESTED CONTAMINATION FROM MATERIAL LODGED IN SCREENS IS POSSIBLE
