| Deposit | THE DEPOSIT IS IN BEDS OF UPPER TRIASSIC LIMESTONE CONGLOMERATE AND SHALE. CINNABAR OCCURS IN LIMESTONE AS VERY RICH BUNCHES AND PODS, AND ALSO FORMED DISSEMINATED CRYSTALS IN WHITE CALCITE VEINLETS CUTTING THE LIMESTONE. SOME OF ORE FROM UPPER PARTS OF THE MINE CONTAINED STIBNITE AND IN THE LOWER LEVELS SCATTERED PODS OF ORE CONTAINED A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF STIBNITE. BOTH THE ORE BODIES LAY IN THE LIMESTONE CONGLOMERATE CLOSE BENEATH THE CONTACT, IN PLACES COMING IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE SHALE. THE LARGEST ORE BODY IS LOCALIZED BETWEEN TWO INTERSECTING STEEP FAULTS. MINERALIZATION OCCURS IN LIMESTONE BENEATH SHALE AND ADJACENT TO A FAULT. THE DEPOSITS ARE FOLDED AND FAULTED INTO NW TRENDING RIDGES. SOUTH PART OF AREA IS FANGLOMERATE, NORTH PART HAS BASALTS. |
| Deposit | DISCOVERED IN 1923 BY E.M. BENEDICT. BOUGHT IN 1927 BY L.A. FRIEDMAN (NEVADA QUICKSILVER COMPANY) AND MINE BECAME ONE OF THE LEADING PRODUCERS IN THE COUNTRY DURING 1928-1929. MINE WAS LEASED TWICE BETWEEN 1931 AND 1942. NO EORT MADE TO DEVELOP MINE AFTER 1943. THE WORKINGS ARE IN BEDS OF UPPER TRIASSIC LIMESTONE CONGLOMERATE AND OVERLYING SHALE. A PROMINENT EASTERLY TRENDING FAULT WHICH OFFSET THE LIMESTONE SHALE CONTACT WAS IMPORTANT IN LOCALIZING THE MAJOR ORE BODY. DEPOSITION OF CINNABAR OCCURRED IN OTHER DIVERGING STEEP FAULTS. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT |
