Comments on the geologic information

  • CINNABAR MINERALIZATION IS MOST INTENSE IN THE 90-FT WIDE ALTERATION ZONE IN FAULT ZONE. CINNABAR OCCURS IN BRECCIATED QUARTZ AND CALCITE VEINLETS ALONG FAULT CONTACT. CINNABAR GRAINS ALSO OCCUR IN FRACTURED & ALTERED ROCK, AND IN APPARENTLY BARREN ROCK WHERE IT IS VERY FINE-GRAINED.

Comments on the workings information

  • INCLINED SHAFT; ADITS. IN 1985, REMAINS OF A 3-PIPE ROSSI RETORT WERE ON THE PROPERTY. OPEN CUT ABOVE RETORT AND ON TOP OF HILL. INCLIN-ED SHAFT AT TOP OF HILL ABOVE RETORT AREA TRENDS DUE EAST AT 4-3 DEGREES AND MAY CONNECT WITH ADIT LOWER DOWN WEST SIDE OF HI-LL. SHAFT CAVED ABOUT 20 FT DOWN. SEVERAL PROSPECT PITS ON HIL-L AND LOW DOWN ON EAST SIDE. ADIT APPROXIMATELY 200 FT DOWN SL-OPE FROM RETORT.

Deposit CINNABAR WAS DISCOVERED HERE ON SO. PACIFIC LAND IN 1941. THE 197-ACRE PROPERTY WAS BOUGHT BY M. ESTRIDGE, AND A 40-FT. INCLINED SHAFT WAS SUNK, WITH NO PRODUCTION. AFTER ESTRIDGE'S DEATH, THE PROPERTY REVERTED TO HUMBOLDT COUNTY FROM WHOM IT WAS BOUGHT IN 1950 BY C. KASSEBAUM, WHO RECOVERED A SMALL AMOUNT OF HG USING A RETORT & CONDENSER IN 1953. IN 1955, LESSEES DAVEY AND BENGO BROS. DROVE A 310-FT ADIT AND RAISE AND BUILT A CRUSHER, STAMP MILL AND 2 CONCENTRATING TABLES AT STONE CORRAL, 2 1/2 MILES E. OF THE CORRAL WHERE THEY PLANNED TO CONCENTRATE THE CINNABAR BEFORE ROASTING. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
