  • SHAFT, OPENCUTS. REMAINS OF DILAPIDATED SHACK. OPEN SHAFT UPHILL FROM IT APPROXIMATELY 150 YARDS. SHAFT IS OPEN AND VERTICAL, MAY-BE 50-75 FT DEEP. SUPPOSED TO BE A SHAFT ALONG ROAD BUT IT WAS- NOT SEEN IN 1984; IT MAY BE CAVED. FEW OPEN CUTS ON HILLS TO -SOUTH OF SHAFT AND 2 SHAFTS OVER RIDGE TOP TO WNW OF NIEBUHR M-INE, BUT THESE WERE NOT VISITED IN 1984.

Deposit OPEN CUT 1400 FEET NW OF SHAFT PHYLLITE/SHEAR ZONE; CINNABAR AND IRON OXIDES IN BLEACHED AND HIGHLY FE-STAINED RHYOLITE.
Deposit CINNABAR WAS DISCOVERED BY T.C. NIEBUHR IN 1939, AND 19 FLASKS OF HG WERE RECOVERED BY THE END OF 1941, USING A 2-PIPE RETORT. THE PROPERTY WAS NOT BEING WORKED IN 1943. THE PROPERTY WAS DEVELOPED BY A 60-FT. INCLINED SHAFT AND SEVERAL OPEN CUTS. "SOLID CINNABAR 'BUNCHES' WEIGHING AS MUCH AS TWO POUNDS" HAVE BEEN REPORTED FOUND IN THE FAULT ZONE. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
