Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • MINE DEVELOPED ALONG THE MARBLE-HORNFELS CONTACT ON TWO ORE BODIES. THE S ORE BODY, IN THE SYNCLINE TROUGH, WAS MINED ALONG BOTH LIMBS; SCHEELITE MINERALIZATION DECREASED AFTER 130 FEET ON W LIMB, AND 125 FEET ON E. THE N ORE BODY, ON THE W LIMB, MINED FOR ABOUT 200 FEET. SOME ORE ALSO FOUND ALONG MARBLE-MONZONITE CONTACT

Comments on the production information

  • MINE WORKED FROM 1942-44, AND 1952-1954(?). TWO MAJOR OREBODIES MINED WERE 130-200 FT LONG, 6-7 FT WIDE, MINED TO A DEPTH OF 35-55 FT WITH ORE AVERAGING ABOUT 0.6 % WO3.

Comments on development

  • LOCATED AND PROSPECTED DURING WW1, BUT NO ORE SHIPPED. RELOCATED IN 1938, AND WORKED DURING 1942-44 AND 1952-54(?). PROSPECTED BY WILLIAM CHAMBERS AND J.S. BEDFORD DURING 1917-1918 WITH NO PRODUCTION. RELOCATED BY WAYNE STOCKER IN 1938 AND AGAIN BY E.T. LONG AND W.E. MEISSER IN 1941. IN 1942 IT WAS LEASED TO THE RARE METALS CORP. OF LOVELOCK, AND WAS OPERATED BY THIS COMPANY DURING 1942 AND 1943. IT WAS OPERATED AGAIN FOR SHORT PERIODS IN 1956, 1972-1973 AND IN 1978-1979. THE LAST OPERATOR OF RECORD WAS AARON MINING CO. INC., WHO MINE ABOUT 5000 TONS OF ORE AND TREATED IT IN THE OLD TOULON MILL, SW OF LOVELOCK. NO ACTIVITY AT TIME OF EXAMINATION IN 1985.

Deposit SCHEELITE-BEARING BODIES OF TACTITE OCCUR ALONG CONTACT BETWEEN MARBLE AND MONZONITE AND ALONG CONTACTS BETWEEN MARBLE AND OVERLYING HORNFELS, A FEW TENS OF FEET EAST OF MONZONITE INTRUSIVE CONTACT. SEDIMENTARY ROCKS FOLDED INTO ASYMMETRICAL SYNCLINE; W. LIMB INTRUDED BY MONZONITE. TWO ORE BODIES DEVELOPED ALONG MARBLE-HORNFELS CONTACT. SOUTH ORE BODY IN TROUGH OF SYNCLINE WAS MINED ALONG BOTH LIMBS, BUT SCHEELITE MINERALIZATION DECREASED AFTER 130 FT ON W. LIMB, AND 125 FT ON E. LIMB. NORTH ORE BODY, ON W. LIMB, WAS MINED FOR ABOUT 200 FT. TWO IRREGULARLY SHAPED PODS ALONG MARBLE-MONZONITE CONTACT CONTAINED ENOUGH SCHEELITE TO YIELD 150 TO 200 TONS OF ORE. URANIUM IS PRESENT IN VERY IRREGULAR, SPOTTY, OCCURRENCES IN THE TACTITE ZONE.
