Deposit PLACERS WERE DISCOVERED IN THE 1860'S. MOST OF MINING IN BARBER CANYON DONE DURING THE PERIOD 1870-90. CHINESE MINERS REPORTEDLY MINED $2 MILLION FROM AUBURN AND BARBER CANYONS DURING THIS PERIOD BUT THERE IS SOME DOUBT AS TO WHETHER ACTUAL PRODUCTION WAS THAT HIGH. MINING RESUMED IN THE 1930'S IN BARBER AND DUN GLEN CANYONS. MOST OF THE PLACER GOLD WAS RECOVERED BY SMALL-SCALE METHODS, SUCH AS SLUICING, HYDRAULICKING, AND DRY WASHING. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
