Comments on the geologic information

  • THE ORE IS IN A QUARTZ-SULFIDE VEIN FROM 4 INCHES TO 4 FEET THICK, WHICH LIES IN A THRUST FAULT IN GREENSTONE AND SCHIST. THE ORE IS OXIDIZED ABOVE THE 400 FOOT LEVEL WITH CARBONATES OF PB & ZN PREDOMINATING. AT DEPTH THE BANDED NATURE OF THE VEIN IS LESS APPARENT WITH THE QUARTZ AND SULFIDES BECOMING AN INTIMATE MIXTURE.

Deposit Discovery Year: 1870'S
Deposit BASE- AND PRECIOUS- METAL-BEARING QUARTZ VEINS CUT METAMORPHIC ROCKS (SCHIST, HORNFELS, QUARTZITE, CHERT AND GREEN-STONE). VEINS CONSIST OF SPHALERITE, PYRITE, GALENA AND ARSENO-PYRITE IN A GANGUE OF QUARTZ AND LESSER CALCITE. THESE MINERAL-S WERE RECOGNIZED IN SULFIDE-BEARING DUMP AND ORE BIN SAMPLES.- FOLIATED META-QUARTZ EYE RHYOLITE PORPHYRY WAS NOTED ON THE D-UMP OF THE UPPER MAIN ADIT. ALTERATION OF WALLROCKS IS NOT ESP-ECIALLY WELL-DEVELOPED.
Deposit THE MINE WAS ORIGINALLY WORKED FOR AU/AG VALUES IN THE OXIDIZED ZONE, BUT PB, AG, & ZN INCREASED IN THE SULFIDE ZONE. THE MINE WAS WORKED INTERMITTANTLY UNTIL 1950. THE MINE IS DEVELOPED BY FOUR TUNNELS THAT FOLLOW THE FAULT ZONE FROM WHICH THE ORE WAS STOPED. DISCOVERED IN 1870'S, RELOCATED IN 1912 ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
