  • THE CALEDONIA CLAIM FROM CONSOLIDATION FO SEVEN CLAIMS IN 1861 BY CALEDONIA TUNNEL COMPANY. ORE WAS HIT ASSAYING UP TO $50 TON BUT ECONOMIC CONDITION FORLED CLOSURE IN 1866. WORK WAS RESUMED IN 1869; ORE WAS FOUND AND PRODUCTION CONTINUED UNTIL 1873. CONTINUED EXPLORATION REVEALED SCATTERED BODIES OF LOW GRADE ORE THROUGH THE LATE 1890'S. SOME GOOD ORE($91/TON) WAS FOUND IN 1902, BUT MOST PRODUCTION THROUGH THE EARLY 1900'S WAS FROM RELATIVELY LOW GRADE ORE. THE MINE'S CURRENTLY OFF THE SOUTH END OF HOUSTON OIL & MINERALS' OPEN PIT OPERATION
