MINE WAS WORKED AGAIN IN 1877-78 AND INTERMITTENTLY FROM 1914 TO 1916, AND REOPENED 1934-35 BY CLAYTON MENDHAM. DEVELOPED BY AN INCLINED SHAFT AND SEVERAL ADITS; 1500 LENGTH TOTAL WORKINGS. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV |
| Deposit | INCLINED SHAFTS WERE DRIVEN IN SHEAR ZONES IN GRANODIORITE. ALTERATION ALONG THE VEINS INCLUDES BRECCIATION SILICIFICATION AND IRON OXIDES. VEINS TREND N 60-70 E, DIP ABOUT 60 W. THERE ARE BOTH QUARTZ BRECCIAS AND BRECCIA COMPOSED OF MAFIC ROCKS WITH A MATRIX OF SILICA AND SULFIDES. SAMPLE 2829 TAKEN FROM THE DUMPS OF THE EVENING STAR AND FROM AN EXPOSED VEIN IN THE UPPER WORKINGS, CONSISTS OF CHALCOPYRITE, GALENA, POSSIBLE SILVER SULFIDES AND GOLD. WORKINGS EAST OR WEST OF THE MINE ARE ON PARALLEL VEINS. ONE OF THE SHEAR ZONES FILLED WITH VEIN MATERIAL IS UP TO 20 FT WIDE WITH OPEN STOPES ADJACENT TO THE INCLINE. |
