Subject category Comment text
Deposit OXIDIZED REPLACEMENT DEPOSIT PARALLEL TO BEDDING, BUT ALSO FRACTURED OR BRECCIATED, INDICATING THE PRESENCE OF A BEDDING PLANE FAULT. SLICKENSIDES VISIBLE ALONG ZONE, AND CROSS-FAULTING OCCURS SUCH AS A PROMINENT FAULT WHICH TRUNCATES BEDDING AT SW END OF ZONE. FAULT STRIKES N2SE DIP 70NW AND MAY HAVE SERVED AS AN AVENUE FOR MINERALIZING FLUIDS WHICH SPREAD OUT ALONG BEDDING OF HOST ROCK. THE REPLACED ZONE IS MARKED BY ABUNDANT LENSES AND PODS OF FE & MN OXIDES, AND SHOWS SILICIFICATION, RECRYSTALLIZATION, OXIDATION AND BLEACHING OF THE LIMESTONE HOST ROCKS ADJACENT TO THE REPLACED HORIZON. DENSE PODS OF MASSIVE MN & FE OXIDES WERE SAMPLED FROM THE DUMP. LEAF GOLD AND GOLD ORE DESCRIBED BY WHEELER FOR THIS LOCALITY MAY CORRESPOND TO THE DEPOSIT EXPLORED BY THE ADIT TO THE SE. HERE, LEAF GOLD IS DEPOSITED ALONG PLANES OF FRACTURE AND FOLIATION IN SHALE LAYER IN THE MENDHA FORMATION. GOLD ORE IN 50-FT INCLINED SHAFT IS REPORTED TO BE 12-18 INCHES THICK. A 10-FT LIMESTONE IS REPLACED BY
Deposit FE-MN OXIDES. QUARTZ-GALENA VEIN IN LIMESTONE UP TO 1 FT THICK STRIKES N65W, DIP 65 NE, AND IS DEVELOPED BY 80-FT ADIT.
