Comments on development

  • DISTRICT DISCOVERED BY SHAW IN 1866. ORE FROM THE ORIENTAL MINE WAS WORKED IN AN ARRASTRA. THE ORIENTAL YIELDED SOME OF THE RICHEST GOLD FOUND IN NEVADA IN THE 1800'S, AND SPECIMENS WERE DISPLAYED AT THE CENTENNIAL EXPOSITION IN PHILADELPHIA IN 1876. IT WAS ABANDONED AFTER A FEW YEARS, THEN REVIVED, AND A POST OFFICE SERVED THE TOWN FROM 1887 TO 1900.
