| Deposit | MANGANESE SILICATES IN RED LIMESTONE STRIKE EAST AND DIP ABOUT 65 N. THE FOOTWALL IS MARKED BY A STRONG SHEAR ZONE. THE RED LIMESTONE IS BORDERED ON THE NORTH BY A NARROW BAND OF TUFF AND ON THE SOUTH BY PILLOW BASALT. IN THE WESTERNMOST PIT THE BUREAU OF MINES IN 1939-40 SANK A 7- BY 7- FT INCLINED SHAFT 80 FT IN THE SHEAR ZONE ALONG THE FOOTWALL OF THE MINERALIZED BODY. IN THE SHAFT MANGANIFEROUS LIMESTONE AND SILICA CAN BE SEEN ALL ALONG THE HANGING WALL. BETWEEN DEPTHS OF 30 AND 55 FT, PILLOW BASALT IS ALSO SEEN IN THE HANGING WALL. THE FOOTWALL OF THE INCLINED SHAFT IS COMPOSED OF BASALT IN THE UPPER PART; SILICA IN THE MIDDLE PART; AND A RED ROCK CONTAINING SILICA, IRON, AND MANGANESE IN THE LOWER PART. AT A DEPTH OF 37 FT A CROSSCUT WAS DRIVEN 24 FT NORTHEASTERLY THROUGH LIMESTONE AND MANGANESE SILICATES TO A CONTACT WITH A SHEARED RED LIMESTONE AND SILICA. A ZONE OF MANGANESE SILICATES 15-20 FT THICK WAS PENETRATED BY THE CROSSCUT. FROM THE SAME STATION, 37 FT BELOW THE |
| Deposit | COLLAR, A DRIFT WAS DRIVEN 8.5 FT EASTWARD ALONG THE SOUTHERN CONTACT OF THE MINERALIZED ZONE TO DETERMINE THE DIRECTION OF THE CONTACT. THIS CONTACT CONVERGED ON THE ONE PREVIOUSLY FOUND IN THE FACE OF THE CROSSCUT. |
