  • STRATIGRAPHY NOT CERTAIN. INTRUSIVE EXTENDS INTO JALISCO OVER 20 SQ KM AND 30 SQ KM IN GUANAJUATO. FE IN SCHIST.

  • IN 1895, THERE WAS NO GOOD DOCUMENTATION THAT HG HAD EVER BEEN PRODUCED. HIGH GRADE STREAKS OF AG RAN ABOUT 200 OZ/ST, FOR WHOLE VEIN GRADE OF 100 OZ/ST.

  • THE SANTA THERESA WAS AN EXPLORATION MINE WHICH SHOWED MERCURY, BUT NOT IN ABUNDANCE (1895), AND A VEIN OF AG ORE (70 OZ/T). SAN FRANCISCO MINE WAS ABANDONED AS ONLY THREADS OF CINNABAR WERE FOUND, BUT IT WAS CLEAR THAT CINNABAR WAS WIDELY DISTRIBUTED ALONG THE MOUNTAIN CHAIN.

  • THE AREA HAS BEEN MINED FOR SILVER FOR CENTURIES. IN THE VALLEY ARE SMALL HG RETORTS, AG REDUCTION HACIENDAS AND WELL BUILT AQUEDUCTS, IDLE IN 1895 AS AN EARTHQUAKE HAD ALTERED THE COURSE OF THE RIVER ABOUT 100 YEARS EARLIER. NEAR SANTA THERESA, IT WAS BELIEVED THAT A RICH CINNABAR VEIN HAD BEEN MINED, BUT NO TRACE OF IT WAS FOUND BY MACTEAR (1895). PROBABLY THE MINES ARE NOW INACTIVE.
