Geologic structures

Type of structure Regional
Structure description Rocks Of The Area Include Various Accreted (Melange) Terranes And Batholithic Rocks Representing Early Igneous Activity Of The Cascade Magmatic Arc.

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Lens-Shaped Ore Bodies Occur In Shear Zones In Granodiorite Of The Index Batholith (Huntting, 1956, P.81). Mafic Minerals Are Altered To Chlorite And Feldspars To Sericite And Kaolin (Patty, 1921, P. 291). Magnetite, Biotite, Hornblende, And Tourmaline Are Found Near The Margin Of The Batholith (Campbell, 1921, P. 5). No Veins Are Reported In The Host Rocks (Which Is Quartzite) To The Batholith.

Comments on the geologic information

  • GRANODIORITE AND TONALITE OF THE INDEX BATHOLITH INTRUDE OLDER METAMORPHIC ROCKS IN THE INDEX AREA (TABOR AND OTHERS, 1982, P. 10). BOTH THE GRANODIORITE AND THE OLDER METAMORPHIC ROCKS (WHICH THE GRANODIORITE INTRUDES) ARE CUT BY APLITE AND LAMPROPHYRE DIKES, AND ALL ARE UNCONFORMABLY OVERLAIN BY INTERBEDDED ANDESITE AND ARKOSE (BROUGHTON, 1942, P. 14).
