Subject category Comment text
Deposit DIAMOND-BEARING GRAVELS OCCUR AS 10-15 CM THICK BASAL SECTION OF 2.5 M THICK GRAVEL UNIT. POORLY SORTED, EXTREMELY ANGULAR FRAGMENTS OF MILKY VEIN QUARTZ AND CLEAR QUARTZ ARE MIXED WITH COARSE TO VERY COARSE SAND AND CLAY. OVERLYING THESE GRAVELS IS A CONSPICUOUS YELLOW TO OCHRE ORGANIC-RICH LAYER. THE DIAMONDS ARE BELIEVED TO DERIVE FROM PALEO-PLACERS IN PRE-RORAIMA SEDIMENTS. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF KIMBERLITES IN THIS DISTRICT.
