LOCATED 1 MILE S 64 DEGREES W FROM WOSSUM VALLEY CHURCH, 3800 FEET N 83 DEGREES W FROM THE INTERSECTION OF COUNTY ROADS 658 AND 664, 450 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE CREEK IN WOSSUM VALLEY. GENERAL LOCATION OF WORKINGS ALONG THE HILLSIDE GIVEN BY LOCAL RESIDENTS. LOCATED BY FIELD OBSERVATION 10/14/87.

  • WORKINGS CONSIST OF NUMEROUS PITS, OPEN CUTS, TRENCHES AND DUMPS OVER AN AREA APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET BY 100 FEET WIDE. LARGEST OPEN CUT TRENDS N 70 DEGREES E IS APPROXIMATELY 60 FEET LONG, 20 FEET WIDE, AND 15 FEET DEEP, AND IS LOCATED AT THE NORTHEAST END OF THE WORKINGS. PITS AT SOUTHWESTERN END OF WORKINGS ARE UP TO 20 BY 10 FEET IN DIAMETER AND 8 FEET DEEP. FIELD EXAMINATION CONDUCTED 10/14/85. WORKINGS ARE PARTIALLY CAVED IN AND OVERGROWN.

  • NO HISTORY IS KNOWN ABOUT THE PROPERTY. LOCAL RESIDENTS KNEW OF GENERAL LOCATION OF "SOME DIGGINGS" NORTH EAST OF THE FARTS MINE ALONG THE HILLSIDE, BUT NOT WHEN OR BY WHOM. APPARENTLY WORKINGS WERE DUG AT THE SAME TIME OF FARTS AND WASSUM MINES. DEVELOPMENT OF SURFACE WORKINGS ONLY, NO SHAFTS, ETC. FOUND,. FAIRLY LARGE SET OF WORKINGS, BUT PRODUCTION IS UNKNOWN.

Deposit DEPOSIT IS NOT EXPOSED NOR DESCRIBED IN THE LITERATURE. SMALL TABULAR BARITE CRYSTALS AND VEINS OF BARITE AND FLUORITE FOUND ON THE DUMP. AS WITH OTHER DEPOSITS IN THE DISTRICT, BARITE OCCURS AS VEINS AND REPLACEMENT MASSES IN FRACTURED BEDROCK, AND AS IRREGULAR FRAGMENTS IN THE SOIL.
