Comments on the workings information

  • IN THE 1940'S, THE RAW MATERIAL WAS PUSHED DOWNHILL AND CONSOLIDATED BY PANS. THIS MATERIAL WAS TRUCKED TO WASHER AND THE ORE WAS MOVED TO RR AT RURAL RETREAT BY 8 TO 10 TON DUMP TRUCKS. ALL AREAS, WITH EXCEPTION OF WINN PROSPECT, RECLAIMED. 15 FT. HIGHWALL OF WEA. RESID. EXPOSED IN 1987 AT SEVERAL MINE SITES.

Comments on development

  • GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED MINING FOR MN BEGAN IN THE 1940'S BY WILSON WEDLIGHT, C.J. LANGLEY, AND OTHERS AND CONTINUED THROUGH THE 1950'S. THE WINN PROSPECT (1910) AND GLADE MTN MINE (1910) WERE REWORKED AND AT LEAST SEVEN NEW SURFACE PITS WERE DEVELOPED ALONG STRIKE BETWEEN THESE TWO OLD MINES. ANOTHER PIT WAS DEVELOPED ALONG THE OLD CCC ROAD, EAST OF THE GLADE MTN MINE. THE WASHER INITIALLY USED WAS THE OLD POND ALONG KILLINGER CREEK THAT WAS THE OLD WASHER FOR THE GLADE MTN MINE. A NEW WASHER AND PREP PLANT WERE CONSTRUCTED AT THE NEW PIT ALONG THE CCC ROAD. WASHED ORE WAS TRUCKED BY 8 TO 10 TON DUMPTRUCKS TO RR AT RURAL RETREAT. THESE STRUCTURES WERE TORN DOWN AND ALL THE MINING SITES RECLAIMED IN THE 1970'S BY THE US FOREST SERVICE. RAW ORE STOCKPILED AT THE WASHER WAS USED AS ROADSTONE ON FIRE TRAILS THROUGHOUT GLADE MTN. THE WINN PROSPECT IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND WAS NOT RECLAIMED BY THE FOREST SERVICE.
