  • OPENED IN 1858 BY MOBILE AND ATLANTA MINING COMPANY AND OPERATED UNTIL 1961. IN 1891-92 ENTIRE MINE WAS REOPENED, CLEANED AND RETIMBERED; BUT NO MININT EVER TOOK PLACE!(?) MINE WAS FOUND TO BE CAVED-IN 1912 BUT STILL BELONGING TO THE ESTATE OF MR. SCHAFER. BY MR. HARVY SCHAFER OF PITTSBURGH, PA. IN 1858. TWO SHAFTS (175 FT. APART) WERE SUNK. ONE WAS 170 FT DEEP AND ONE WAS 155 FT DEEP. A 300 FT DRIFT WAS DRIVEN ALONG THE STRIKE OF THE LODE.
