  • IN 1974, CAVED SHAFT, ABOUT TWELVE CAVED PITS, AND "HORNET BALLS" WERE NOTED. TWO SHAFTS WERE SUNK AND NUMEROUS PITS DUG DURING THE MINES OPERATION. IN OCTOBER, 1987, SOIL HAS BEEN PUSHED UP AGAINST THE "HORNET BALLS" AND A NEW HOUSE (FULLER) HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED ON THE OLD PLANT SITE.

  • MINE WAS OPENED IN 1834. BY 1865 A MILL CONTAINING 12 STAMPS{ ONE CRUSHING APPARATUS, WITH 2 ROLLING BALLS OF 1,000 POUNDS EACH, WHICH MOVE IN A PAN{ 2 CHILEAN MILLS FOR AMALGAMATION AND GRINDING ORE{ SIFTING APPARATUS{ ONE AMALGAMATOR WORKING IN CONNECTION WITH SHAPING TUBES{ AND ONE 70-HORSEPOWER ENGINE. IN 1868 THE LIBERTY MINING CO. EXPANDED DEVELOPMENT. THE MINE WAS CLOSED AND IN DISREPAIR BY 1887. A SECOND SHAFT (THE FIRST SHAFT WAS SUNK TO A DEPTH OF 11 M (35 FT) IN 1868) WAS SUNK IN 1912/1913. A LITTTE PROSPECTING TOOK PLACE IN 1922 AND IN 1935 THE 11 M SHAFT WAS CLEANED OUT, BUT NOTHING OF VALUE WAS FOUND.

Deposit QUARTZ VEIN IS 1.2 TO 1.8 M (4 TO 6 FT) WIDE, AND CARRIES GOLD AND PYRITE?
Deposit IN 1868 THERE WERE A 12-STAMP MILL, 2 CHILEAN MILLS, AND OTHER EQUIPMENT, IN ADDITION TO A 35-FOOT TIMBERED SHAFT AND CAVED PITS. THE MINE WAS REOPENED IN JUNE, 1935. A 35 FT. SHAFT WAS SUNK, BUT NOTHING OF VALUE WAS FOUND. A LITTLE PROSPECTING WAS ALSO DONE IN 1922. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
