  • IN ADDITION TO ABOVE 176 M OF SHAFTING SUNK FOR A TOTAL OF 15 SHAFTS. (ALL FIGURES INCLUDE WORKINGS ON DICKEY AND OLD TINDER TRACTS, 11 OF 15 SHAFTS WERE ON GRASTY TRACT. IN 1974, NUMEROUS CAVED SHAFTS AND PITS, AN OLD ROASTING STACK, AND DUMPS WERE EVIDENT.

  • THE VIRGINIA MINING CO., THE FIRST INCORPORATED GOLD MINING COMPANY IN VA., OPERATED HERE FROM 1831 TO 1843. THE CHANCELLORSVILLE-FREEHOLD MINING CO. OPERATED THE MINE FROM 1853 TO 1857, THE CHICAGO-VIRGINIA GOLD MINING CO. FROM 1879 TO 1881, THE AMERICAN GOLD MINING CO. FROM 1881 TO 1883, AND THE GOLD RUN MINING CO., OPERATING DATES UNSNOWN. THE PIEDMENT MINING AND METALLURGICAL CORP. BOUGHT THIS TRACT AND THE DICKEY AND OLD TINDER TRACTS IN 1907, OPERATING UNTIL 1910. AFTER WORLD WAR I, SOME LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AND EXPLORATION WORK WAS DONE. AROUND 1957, THE LUCSY HUNDRED MINERAL AND MINING CORP.
