Deposit First Production Year: 1939; 1933-39 EXPLORATION ADIT DRIVEN BY CERRO DE PASCO COPPER CORP.
Deposit SHOOTS WITH DIMENSIONS: LENGTH 400 M, WIDTH AVERAGE 100 CM. THE CORDOVA GOLD PROSPECT, SHOWN AS NO. 70 ON METALLOGENIC MAPS OF PERU, IS 8 KM. SW OF CARAVELI, 1/2 KM EAST OF CALPA. A NUMBER OF VEINS 40 TO 100 METERS LONG AND AS MUCH AS 70 CM WIDE THAT STRIKE N 20-80 E AND DIP ABOUT 70 DEG NW, HAVE BEEN EXPLORED. THEY CONTAIN FROM A FEW GRAMS TO ABOUT 15 GRAMS OF GOLD PER TON. ROCKS OF AREA ARE GRANODIORITE OF THE COASTAL BATHOLITH OVERLAIN BY VOLCANIC ROCKS, MAINLY RHYOLITE. VEINS RANGE IN WIDTH FROM A FEW CENTIMETERS TO 2 METERS, AVERAGING SOMEWHAT MORE THAN 1 M. QUARTZ IS USUALLY MASSIVE AND MODERATELY COARSE GRAINED, AND MAY BE EITHER CLEAR OR MILKY; RARELY IT SHOWS BANDING OR COMB STRUCTURE. PYRITE OCCURS AS ISOLATED CRYSTALS AND IN VEINLETS, LENSES, AND IRREGULAR POCKETS. GOLD FORMS WORMLIKE MASSES THAT REACH A MAXIMUM SIZE OF 5 MM; IT IS MAINLY ELECTRUM WITH AS MUCH AS 60% SILVER.
