Alteration

  • (Local) Wall Rocks Are Chloritized, Kaolinized, And Sericitized. At Least Two Stages Of Mineralization And Alteration Have Been Recognized. During The Earlier Stage Wall Rocks Were Silicified, Whereas Later The Wall Rocks And Wall Rock Inclusions In Quartz Were Pyritized And Gold Was Introduced With Fine-Grained Pyrite. Pyritization Usually Extends Only 50 Cm Or So From The Vein, Whereas Chloritization May Be Recognizable As Much As 150 Cm From The Walls.

Comments on the geologic information

  • ROCKS OF THE PARCOY DISTRICT CONSIST, FROM OLDEST TO YOUNGEST, OF RED TO GRAY SANDSTONE, BLUISH GRAY MASSIVE SHALE AND MASSIVE BLUE GRAY LIMESTONE, AND GRANODIORITE THAT INTRUDES THESE ROCKS. THE SANDSTONE IS CEMENTED BY SILICA, IRON OXIDE, AND CALCITE. NEAR THE GRANODIORITE IT IS FOLDED AND TO THE WEST OF RETAMAS IT DIPS 30 DEG-40 DEG W. THE SHALE CROPS OUT EAST OF THE GRANODIORITE MASS AND ALSO IS FOUND IN ROOF PENDANTS. THE GRANODIORITE BODY INCLUDES VARIATIONS TOWARD GRANITE AND DIORITE, FORMS NUMEROUS APOPHYSES, AND HAS MANY INCLUSIONS AND ROOF PENDANTS. NEAR THE SANDSTONE THE GRANITOID ROCK IS REDDISH COLORED. IT IS CHLORITIZED ALONG FRACTURES AND MAY HAVE EPIDOTE ON THE SURFACE OF OUTCROPS. THE CONTACT BETWEEN SEDIMENTARY ROCKS AND GRANODIORITE TO THE WEST OF RETAMAS IS STEEP. IN THE ICHI OR GIGANTE AREA, 4-5 KM SE OF PARCOY, THE COUNTRY ROCK INCLUDES SOME METASEDIMENTARY ROCKS. THE SUMMITS TO THE EAST OF RETAMAS ARE CAPPED BY VOLCANIC ROCKS, MAINLY FLOWS, THAT DIP GENTLY EAST.
  • WEST OF RETAMAS, ANDESITE DIKES CUT GRANODIORITE AND SANDSTONE... THE PRINCIPAL VEINS AT PARCOY ARE IN THE GRANODIORITE BODY NEAR ITS WEST CONTACT WITH SEDIMENTARY ROCKS. A FEW VEINS ARE ALONG THE CONTACT.
