The Volcanic Rocks Are Mainly Flows But Also Include Some Flow Breccias And Pyroclastics. All Veins Exploited Or Explored To Date (1960) Are Enclosed In Volcanic Rocks. In General The Veins Strike Ne And Dip 55-80 Se.

Native Silver And Pyrargyrite Found In Upper Parts Of Vein. Wavellite Has Been Reported.

  • VERY LITTLE DATA IS AVAILABLE ON THE GRADE OF ORE MINED AT CAILLOMA. DURING THE EARLY YEARS OF THE CAILLOMA SILVER MINING COMPANY, ORE AVERAGED 2.5 KG OF SILVER PER TON, BUT BY THE TIME THIS COMPANY CEASED OPERATIONS IN 1905, THE GRADE HAD DECREASED TO 800 GRAMS PER TON (VELARDE, 1908). IN 1917, ORE PRODUCTION WAS 5 TONS PER DAY AVERAGING 500 GRAMS SILVER AND 2 GRAMS GOLD PER TON (BASADRE, 1918). IN 1944, MILL HEADS CONTAINED 350 GRAMS SILVER AND 1.5 GRAMS GOLD PER TON, AS WELL AS SMALL AMOUNTS (1%) OF ZINC, LEAD, AND COPPER. DURING 1955-57, HEADS AVERAGED ABOUT 456 GRAMS SILVER AND 1.1 GRAM GOLD PER TON.

  • INSUFFICIENT DATA 3/74 TO MAKE ESTIMATE. METALLOGENIC MAPS OF PERU INDICATE A DEPOSIT CONTAINING BETWEEN ONE AND 10 MILLION TONS OF ORE.
  • ORE (1990) CONTAINS 613,335 METRIC TONS PROVEN AND 204,445 METRIC TONS PROBABLE.
