Deposit A FEW THOUSAND TONS OF REFRACTORY TYPE CHROMITE ORES HAVE BEEN MINED BY MAGNESITA S.A. FROM SHALLOW PITS IN A ULTRABASIC MASS NORTH OF CROMINIA. OTHER OUTCROPS, NONE MINED TO DATE, ARE REPORTED ON NORTHERN SLOPE OF MORRO FEIO. IT IS NOT CONSIDERED TO HAVE FAVORABLE ECONOMIC POTENTIAL. CROMINIA IS 70 KM SOUTH OF GOIANIA ON SAO PAULO HIGHWAY THEN 13 KM WESTERLY. MORRO FEIO IS A PROMINENT BLACK HILL ABOUT 3 KM WEST OF THIS HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 30 KM SOUTH OF GOIANIA. CHROMITE OCCURS IN ONE HORIZON IN STRATIFORM LAYERS OF A HIGHLY WEATHERED ULTRABASIC MASS (SERPENTINITE). THE CHROMITE HORIZON CONFORMS CLOSELY WITH THE WESTERLY DIP-SLOPE OF A SMALL HILL. THIS HAS MADE POSSIBLE EASY HAND-LABOR EXTRACTION OF PODS AND LENSES OF CHROMITE RANGING OF 2 METERS THICK. ALTHOUGH CONSIDERABLE TRENCHING HAS BEEN DONE RECENTLY, NO NEW HORIZONS HAVE BEEN ENCOUNTERED ALONG ONE 80-METER LONG TRENCH EXTENDING FROM THE OLD WORKINGS THROUGH THE CREST OF THE HILL. ONLY SMALL STRINGERS OF CHROMITE OR NARROW ZONES
Deposit OF DISSEMINATED MINERAL BORDERING OLD WORKINGS ARE OBSERVABLE NOW.
