| Deposit | DEPOSIT IS ABOUT 5 KM N.W. OF SENHOR DO BONFIM NEAR VILLAGE OF CARRAPICHO. THE MINE IS LOCATED ON THE FAZENDA ENGENHO VELHO (VALLEY) AND THE PROPRIETOR IS RAMIRO AUGUSTO MIRANDA. THE MINERALIZED ZONE IS ALONG A FAULT (N10W, DIPS 70-80 W.) THAT CUTS HOST ROCK. THE ZONE IS ABOUT 15 METERS WIDE. BRECCIA CONSISTS OF FRAGMENTS OF SERICITE SCHIST AND OF SANDY LIMONITIC CLAY. THIS ENVIRONMENT AND OVERALL APPEARANCE OF THE ROCK SEEMS VERY SIMILAR TO THAT OF THE LAGOA GRANDE MANGANESE MINE, IN MINAS GERAIS WHERE THE ORE IS FRACTURED, BRECCIATED, AND DEEPLY WEATHERED GANDARELA DOLOMITE. THE SIMILARITY IS SO CLOSE THAT A DETAILED DRY-SEASON MAPPING MIGHT BE ABLE TO PROVE A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE SENHOR DO BONFIM SECTION AND THE TYPE MINAS SERIES. MAPPING OUT THE STRIKE LENGTH OF THE GANDARELA WOULD OUTLINE A FAVORABLE ZONE FOR THE OCCURRENCE OF OTHER MANGANESE DEPOSITS. MORE WORK IS DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED IN THIS AREA. |
