| Deposit | THICKNESSES UP TO 7 METERS. THE ORE IS ENRICHED WITH BARIUM SUGGESTING THE CHIEF ORE MINERAL IS CRYPTOMELANE (?). |
| Deposit | ORE DEPOSITS; LOCATED S25W FROM LICINIO DE ALMEIDA, ARE CALLED THE PEDRA PRETA GROUP BY GEOLOGIST OF THE COMPANY MINERACAO URANDI S.A. THE COUNTRY ROCKS ARE QUARTZITE; SERICITIC QUARTZITE; GARNETIFEROUS, SERICITIC QUARTZITE AND DOLOMITE. THESE ROCKS ARE PROBABLY A PART OF THE MINAS SERIES THAT CROP OUT ALONG THE CHAPADA DIAMANTINA. AS AT TAUAPE THE MANGANESE OXIDES APPEAR TO BE STRATIGRAPHICALLY CONTROLLED AND SELECTIVELY ENRICHED DURING THE WEATHERING CYCLE. THE MANGANESE OXIDES DIFFER FROM THOSE AT TAUAPE IN THAT SPESSARTITE (?) GARNET IS VERY COMMONLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE MANGANESE OXIDES AND HAS LARGELY WEATHERED OUT TO FORM A PITTED ORE SURFACE. DOLOMITE IS PRESENT IN THE STRATIGRAPHIC SECTION ALONG STRIKE (N60) ON SOME OF THE MANGANESE OXIDE LENSES. FRACTURE FILLING OF SPESSARTITE (?) OCCUR IN THE DOLOMITE. THE MANGANESE ORE BODIES COMMONLY HAVE A HARD, BLACK, ALMOST VITREOUS, SURFACE CAPPING BUT AT DEPTH THE ORE IS SOFTER AND FRIABLE. MANY ORE BODIES ARE LENS-SHAPED WITH |
