Deposit THE ROCK DESCRIPTIONS ARE FROM ANDERSON WHO COULD NOT GIVE A DEFINATE AGE AND DID NOT NAME THE FORMATIONS. TWO DEPOSIT TYPES ARE UNRELATED-VEINS IN SHEARS IN THE VOLCANICS PRODUCED AG & CU VEINS IN THE DIORITE PRODUCED CU AND AU
Deposit DEPOSIT IS LOCATED ABOUT 3 KM NNW OF TAUAPE, AND IS BEING WORKED BY MINERACAO URANDI S.A. THE MANGANESE IS MINED FROM A SERIES OF SHALLOW OPEN CUTS THAT ARE ALIGNED N5-35W. THE CUTS ARE UP TO 3 M DEEP AND APPEAR TO BE CHIEFLY IN THE WEATHERED ZONE AND NOT MUCH DEEPER. THE ORE APPEARS TO BE HIGH-GRADE FERROMANGANESE WITH 48% MN. THE ORE IS PROBABLY STRATIGRAPHICALLY CONTROLLED WITHIN THE MINAS SERIES SINCE THE METALLOGENIC BELT CAN BE TRACED FOR ABOUT 60 KM FROM NEAR JUREMA ON THE NORTH, THROUGH TAUAPE, AND SOUTH TO URANDI. AT TAUAPE A SILICIFIED DOLOMITE OR MICACEOUS SCHIST APPEARS TO BE SELECTIVELY WEATHERED TO MANGANESE OXIDES.
