Deposit A MINERALIZED ZONE IS EXPOSED IN A ROAD CUT ABOUT 3-5 KM EAST OF JACOBINA. THE ZONE IS ABOUT 70M THICK AND STRIKES ABOUT N10E WITH BEDS NEARLY VERTICAL. THE CONTENT OF THE ZONE APPEARS TO BE FERROMANGANESE WITH ZONES (MORE THAN A METER THICK) OF HIGH GRADE MANGANESE ORE, PYROLUSITE, PSILOMELANE AND POSSIBLY SOME MANGANITE. ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO VISIT SOME OTHER AREAS SOUTH OF JACOBINA AT MIGUEL CALMON, PIRITIBA, AND FRANCA BUT RAINSTORMS HAD FLOODED THESE AREAS. HOWEVER, SOME HAND SAMPLES OF MANGANESE FROM PIRITIBA SHOWED THE SAME HIGH-GRADE QUALITY OBSERVED NEAR JACOBINA.
