  • MILL.CAP: 2.0 MIL MET. T/YR. 1957 ; ECON.COM: ALL MINED ORE IS HAULED UNDERGROUND TO BULTFONTEIN SHAFT FOR HOISTING TO THE SURFACE. OPEN PIT OPERATION UNTIL 1889. THE MINE WAS CLOSED AT THAT TIME AND REOPENED IN 1906 AS UNDERGROUND OPERATION. IT HAS BEEN CLOSED TWICE SINCE, DURING WORLD WAR I AND DURING DEPRESSION OF 1930'S. CURRENTLY, BLOCK CAVING MINING METHOD EMPLOYED.
